Katherine Lupa Matthews joined the Construction Law Practice Group at Gordon, Muir & Foley in 2007. Since joining the firm, Kate has counseled and represented owners, contractors, subcontractors, and other construction industry professionals in the full spectrum of construction law issues, including mechanic's liens, new home construction and home improvement disputes, insurance coverage concerns particular to the construction industry, and construction contract review and drafting. 

Prior to joining GMF, Kate was a litigation associate at a small, general practice law firm in Wethersfield, Connecticut, where she represented and advised clients in matters of construction law, divorce and child custody, immigration, personal injury, probate and criminal defense.

Kate practices in both state and federal courts. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut , the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court .  Kate has tried cases to judgment in trial courts and before the U.S. Immigration Court . Kate has authored numerous briefs and memoranda to trial courts, the Connecticut Appellate Court, Connecticut Supreme Court, U.S. District Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court . 

Kate graduated from Simmons College in Boston in 2002, with a BA in Philosophy and Political Science. Kate is a two-time past President and Captain of the nationally-ranked Simmons College Speech and Debate Team the only all-women, intercollegiate, Lincoln-Douglas debate team in the country. She is currently serving her first term as president of the College's Class of 2002. Following college, Kate returned home to Connecticut to attend law school at the University of Connecticut . She received her JD from the University in 2005. In law school, Kate was a senior associate editor of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal, and an active participant in the University's Criminal Appellate Clinic. 

Kate is a member of the Construction Law, Women in the Law and Young Lawyers Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association. She is also a member of the Construction Industry, Tort & Insurance Practice and Young Lawyers Divisions of the American Bar Association. She is an active member of the Young Professionals Council of the Construction Institute.

Kate is a lifelong Connecticut resident. She lives in Forestville with her husband, Peter, and their daughter, Anna. In addition to devoting time to raise and care for her family, Kate is an active member of her community. She is currently running for City Council in Bristol's Third District, she is a Eucharistic minister at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Bristol , and a member and past officer of the American Legion Auxiliary. Kate is proud to have twice lectured on the topic of Connecticut State Courts and Law to high school juniors at the Girl's State program of the American Legion Auxiliary a nonpartisan program that promotes responsible citizenship among young women by teaching them about their state and local governments. In her spare time, Kate enjoys reading, writing and cooking for friends and family.
