Mary Ryan joined GMF's Construction Law and Commercial Litigation practice group in 2010. Prior to joining the firm, Mary was general counsel to a Connecticut construction industry supply company for sixteen years. Previous to her work as in-house counsel, she was in private practice with a firm in Cheshire, Connecticut. Mary began her legal career as a Staff Attorney with the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch Legal Research Program.
Mary's previous private practice and in-house experience encompassed advising and representing clients in a wide variety of matters including business and construction law, mechanic's liens, employee relations, creditor's collection matters, regulatory compliance, safety training, development and implementation of business and safety policies & procedures, drafting commercial leases and other documents, worker's compensation matters, estate administration and planning, and plaintiff's personal injury claims.
During her prior eleven years in private practice Mary was an active member of the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce serving three consecutive terms as President of the Board of Directors.
Mary lives in Durham, Connecticut where she is an active member of her community. Mary is an elected member of the Town of Durham’s Public Library Board of Trustees. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board after serving for many years as Recording Secretary. During her tenure on the Board she has been a member of the Building Maintenance subcommittee. Ms. Ryan is also an active member of Durham's Public Association of Library Supporters (PALS). Attorney Ryan is an approved Town Moderator for Town of Durham Town Meetings. In 2011, Mary was appointed to the Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation's Board of Directors. CVEF supports inter-generational, life-long learning programs in Durham and Middlefield through annual grants. She is the chair and a past treasurer of the Durham Democratic Women's Club, an organization that promotes Democratic women candidates and get-out-the-vote activities, sponsors a high school scholarship award, and purchases and donates books and other media on women and women's issue for inclusion in the local library. When her son was young, Mary was the Pack 27 Assistant Pack Leader and a Cub Scout den leader. Mary enjoys gardening, reading, travel, and the arts.
